An unknown woman breaks into the house and steals the painting given to the countess by the supposed prince. A few hours later, the painting is returned to its place. On the floor, at the foot of the painting, lies the body of a young man who bears a striking resemblance to the portrait on the canvas. The police burst into Arsène Lupin's home and charge him with murder. The gentleman thief manages a daring escape, but not before stealing the guards' pay...
